Contrary to what the name may suggest, a Social Media Release is NOT the act of venting anger in a post on Facebook.

Whether referred to as a Social Media News Release (SMNR), a Social Media Press Release (SMPR) or just plain old Social Media Release (SMR), the SMR is a tool aimed at journalists and bloggers which can be described as an digitally-enhanced news / press release.
